PM Meles holds talks with officials of various countries

Prime Minister Meles Zenawi here on Sunday held talks with officials of various countries on bilateral and mutual concerns.

While conferring with Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero Meles exchanged views on issues related to the existing bilateral relations between Ethiopia and Spain.

The two parties underscored that the two countries should maintain the excellent relations they have been enjoying.

Meles on the occasion briefed his Spanish counterpart on the current situation in Somalia

The two officials have also discussed on the peace and security affairs in Somalia.

The Spanish PM on his part said the European Union will provide capacity building training to TFG security forces in the near future.

The two parties agreed that prime attention should be given towards building financial capacity of TFG of Somalia and strengthening its institutions.

Meanwhile, the premier also held discussion with Under Secretary of States for Global Affairs Maria Otero and Assistance Secretary of States for African Affairs, Johnnie Carson same day.

The officials discussed on bilateral, regional and international concerns.

They discussed on climate change and terrorism.

Similarly, Meles held discussion with Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Lawrence Cannon on bilateral, regional as well as international issues.

Meles told Cannon that the commitment made by the developed nations should be changed into practice .

The developed nations should live up to their words for the realization of Copenhagen Accord, he noted.

The foreign Minister commended the premier’s leading role at the Copenhagen Conference. Canada will host the next G-20 summit.

Meles also discussed with World Bank President Robert B Zoellick. (ENA)
