EPRDF Council concludes regular session after passing decisions
The Executive Council of the Ethiopian Peoples' Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) concluded its regular meeting on Saturday after evaluating first year implementation of the five year Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP).
The Council reviewed the achievements gained rural development activities in the past one year in view of the goals of the GTP as encouraging.
The Council lauded the natural resource conservation works done by farmers over the year. The work has contributed to bigger harvest, it said and called for replication of best practices to other sectors.
The Council stressed the need for address existing gaps in attitude, skills and input in this regard.
In the urban development sector, the Council commended the achievement gained in Micro and Small Enterprises (SMEs) development, land administration and housing sectors.
However, the Council stressed the need to tackle problems of maladministration and maximize the participation and benefit of the public in ongoing urban development.
It said significant increase in foreign investment has been observed in the past budget year.
The Council emphasized the role of domestic investment in speeding up the efforts of transforming Ethiopia into an industrial nation.
The Council reaffirmed its commitment to take additional measures to encourage local investors.
Concerning infrastructure development, it said the study for the railway installation and related work has been carried out well and building the national capacity for the same cause is on the right truck.
The Council noted ongoing electric power generation development is on the right track to satisfy the ever increasing power demand of the nation.
It however called for greater attention towards curbing structural problems related to power distribution and due to damage on power transmission lines.
The Council also reviewed activities executed in the areas of education, health, good governance and public relations.
The Council noted that problems in the sectors should be addressed with active participation of the public.
The Council said the efforts made by media and public relation works towards effective implementation of the GTP is encouraging. It further said the public relation works need to be intensified for better achievements.
The Council reviewed all the activities carried out across the various sectors and decided to capitalize on best practices and work on the shortcomings in the current budget year.
The Council has also set directions for the effective implementation of the GTP in this Ethiopian budget year.
The Council urged leaders at various levels, members and the entire public to further intensify the fight against hindering mentality for the better achievements in the future. (ENA)
